A devastating fire in Komortanpur village, Jabalpur, claimed the life of a 2.5-year-old girl and left a 5-year-old boy severely burned. The incident occurred on Tuesday when the children were playing on a pavilion made of grass, sheets, and wood, which was used to overlook a paddy field. The children’s mothers were nearby, harvesting paddy, while their fathers were away—one fetching laborers, the other attending a relative’s funeral.

The fire broke out suddenly, possibly caused by the children playing with matchsticks. The boy, despite suffering severe burns, managed to escape by jumping from the pavilion. Tragically, his sister, Dineshwari, was unable to flee and was trapped in the flames, succumbing to the fire.

Nearby villagers rushed to extinguish the flames, and the authorities were notified. The boy was initially treated at the Gadhi government hospital before being transferred to the district hospital. After a postmortem, Dineshwari’s body was handed over to her family for final rites. The incident remains under investigation.
