A 35-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a speeding car while bursting firecrackers on a road in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area. The incident occurred on November 30 and was captured on CCTV footage. The victim, identified as Soham Patel, was celebrating when a car rammed into him, propelling him into the air. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene.
Authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident. The police have registered a case and are actively investigating by reviewing additional CCTV footage along the road to identify the vehicle involved in the tragic hit-and-run.
This incident is part of a concerning trend during the Diwali season, marked by increased firecracker-related injuries. In a separate occurrence in Pune’s Sinhgad area, five children sustained injuries when a drain chamber lid exploded as they set off firecrackers on top of it.
Additionally, in Nagpur, another firecracker-related tragedy unfolded when a 25-year-old man named Amol Waghmare was allegedly stabbed to death by a teenager during an argument about firecrackers on November 1. These incidents highlight the dangers associated with the celebrations surrounding the festival.
