At an AI Summit in Washington on Wednesday, former US President Donald Trump delivered a strong rebuke to major tech companies such as Google and Microsoft, urging them to reduce overseas hiring—particularly in nations like India—and instead concentrate on domestic job creation.
Trump criticized the tech sector’s “globalist agenda,” stating it had sidelined American workers. He argued that companies benefiting from US freedoms were investing abroad, not at home. “Those days are done under my leadership,” he asserted.
“Big tech has flourished thanks to America’s liberty, while outsourcing jobs to India, building plants in China, and hoarding profits in Ireland,” Trump said. “Meanwhile, they suppress voices here at home. That ends now.” He called for a new wave of “patriotism and loyalty” from Silicon Valley and beyond.
Calling for tech giants to “go all in for America,” Trump urged companies to prioritize national interests. “All we ask is that you put America first,” he added.
Trump signed three executive orders on AI. One introduces a national plan titled Winning the Race, aimed at accelerating AI development by easing datacentre construction and AI infrastructure.
A second order requires AI firms receiving federal funds to develop politically neutral tools, rejecting what Trump labeled as “woke” ideologies. He criticized past diversity policies for slowing AI progress. “We are eliminating woke,” he declared.
The third order seeks to enhance the global competitiveness of US-made AI by promoting exports and full-stack development.
Trump also questioned the term “artificial intelligence,” saying, “It’s not artificial—it’s genius.”
