Munger (Bihar): In a heartbreaking turn of events, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), identified as Santosh Kumar Singh, was fatally assaulted by a group of individuals in Munger district on Friday evening. Singh, who was stationed at the Mufassil police station, was investigating a dispute in Nandlalpur village when the attack occurred.
Around 8:30 pm, while probing the conflict, Singh was struck on the head with a sharp weapon by some of the individuals involved in the scuffle. Despite immediate medical attention and being transferred to a hospital in Patna, Singh unfortunately passed away from his injuries in the early hours of Saturday. Four suspects have been detained in connection with the incident, as confirmed by Chandan Kumar, the SHO of Mufassil police station.
In a separate but equally tragic case, another ASI, Rajeev Ranjan, lost his life in Araria district on Wednesday night. Police had gone to Lakshmipur area to apprehend an individual, but a violent altercation broke out between the officers and locals, leading to Ranjan’s fatal injuries.
These two incidents underscore the escalating violence faced by law enforcement in Bihar. The state police have launched investigations into both cases, promising further developments in the coming days.
