A household in Manai village was plunged into mourning after two sisters, aged 25 and 23, died just hours before their weddings, officials said on Sunday.
Shobha (25) and Vimla (23) were scheduled to be married on Saturday. Wedding preparations were in full swing on Friday night, with celebrations continuing late into the evening.
Health deteriorated in early hours
According to police, the sisters retired to bed around midnight after the festivities. At approximately 4 am, their condition reportedly worsened suddenly, prompting family members to rush them to a private hospital in Jodhpur.
Doctors declared both women dead on arrival.
Roshan Meena, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), stated that once authorities were informed, officers reached the residence and halted the funeral preparations. The bodies were shifted to a mortuary for post-mortem examination and later handed over to the family.
Probe underway, no note recovered
Preliminary investigations suggest the sisters may have consumed a poisonous substance. However, officials clarified that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
Police also confirmed that no suicide note has been recovered from the scene so far. Further inquiry is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the deaths.
The incident has left the village in disbelief, with neighbours and relatives struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss on what was meant to be a day of celebration.
