Two brothers were shot dead during a wedding reception in Shahpur village in Bihar’s capital, allegedly over a prolonged land dispute.

The victims, identified as Manjeet Kumar and Manish Kumar, were attending the reception of Daulat Rai’s son when gunmen opened fire. According to initial reports, around 26–27 rounds were allegedly fired at the venue, creating panic among guests.

Both brothers were rushed to hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

Land dispute suspected motive

Police suspect the attack is linked to an old property dispute between the victims’ family and their cousin, Krishna Rai, who had reportedly lost a related court case recently.

Parichay Kumar, SP City East, Patna, said the police received information about the shooting during the reception function.

“Daulat Rai’s son’s reception was going on here. We got the information that two brothers, Manish and Manjeet, were shot. They died before reaching the hospital. The exact nature of the dispute will be clear after investigation,” he said.

Family alleges prolonged tension

The victims’ brother, Rajneesh Kumar, claimed that the family had won the disputed land case twice but tensions had persisted.

“Both of them were shot. We are three brothers. We won the case twice. Our land was disputed,” he said.

Probe underway

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the area and recording eyewitness statements. Forensic teams are examining evidence from the scene.

Police have not yet confirmed the identities of the attackers, and further details are awaited.
