Two men suffering from fever died in separate incidents in Bilhaur town of Kanpur district after allegedly being administered wrong injections by unqualified practitioners on Saturday evening, officials said.
Death in Bojha village sparks outrage
Dinesh Gautam (58), a resident of Bojha village, had been running a fever for two days. His family took him to a makeshift medical store in the Bhausana area, where he was reportedly treated by a quack.
According to his brother Avinash, the store operator, identified as Chaman, allegedly administered an incorrect injection in an attempt to provide quick relief. Gautam’s condition worsened soon after, leading to his death.
The incident triggered protests by villagers, who gathered at the clinic demanding strict action. The operator allegedly fled the spot as tensions escalated. Durgesh Mishra, Station House Officer, reached the location to pacify the crowd.
Second death in Rahmat Nagar
In a similar incident in Rahmat Nagar under Chaubepur, Sattar (35) reportedly died after receiving an injection from a makeshift clinic operator, Ashish Kumar. Family members alleged medical negligence and staged protests following his death. The accused was not found at the clinic when police arrived.
Hari Dutt Nemi, Chief Medical Officer, said two medical teams were sent for inspection, but both clinics were found closed. He assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted and strict action taken against those responsible.
Police said they are persuading families to allow post-mortem examinations. An FIR will be registered upon receiving a formal complaint.
Authorities have urged residents to seek treatment only from qualified medical practitioners.
