Two pilots of the Indian Air Force were killed after a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong late on Wednesday night.
The Air Force confirmed that the pilots who lost their lives were Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Indian Air Force expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“All personnel of the IAF express sincere condolences and stand firmly with the bereaved families in this time of grief,” the statement read.
Crash during routine operation
According to initial reports, the Sukhoi Su-30 MKI aircraft was involved in an accident while operating in the region. The circumstances leading to the crash are currently under investigation.
The Sukhoi Su-30 MKI is one of the Indian Air Force’s frontline fighter aircraft, known for its long-range capability and advanced combat systems.
Emergency teams and local authorities reached the crash site soon after the incident. Officials are working to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The deaths of the two pilots have drawn condolences from defence personnel and members of the public.
