In Udaipur, Rajasthan, an incident involving an eight-year-old girl on Sunday evening triggered widespread unrest on Monday. Local residents vandalised buses, damaged police vehicles, threw stones, and blocked roads. The disturbance began after the child, who usually accompanied her mother to the fields, went alone to a nearby area.
A case was registered under the POCSO Act at Dabok police station. Police tracked down and arrested the accused the next morning using CCTV footage. However, tensions escalated when rumours circulated about the child’s condition, prompting a large crowd to gather outside the police station. Around 10 police vehicles were damaged, buses were vandalised, and a road was blocked. Law enforcement from three police stations was deployed, and several individuals involved in the unrest were identified for further action.
In a separate incident in Dungarpur on August 4, a six-year-old girl went missing after leaving home to study. She was later found deceased near a pond. Authorities stated that the suspect, a relative, was detained the following day. Police from multiple stations, along with forensic teams, were involved in the investigation.
Both cases have sparked strong reactions across Rajasthan, with calls for stricter measures to protect children and ensure swift justice.
