London: UK police have launched an appeal for information after a woman in her 20s reported being attacked in Oldbury, Sandwell (West Midlands) earlier this week. Authorities are treating the case as a racially aggravated assault.

Police investigation

West Midlands Police confirmed they were called to Tame Road in Oldbury on Tuesday morning following the complaint.

“We’re investigating after a woman reported to us that she had been sexually assaulted in Oldbury in what we are treating as a racially aggravated attack,” the force said in a statement.

The suspects have been described as two men. Officers said forensic work, CCTV checks, and community outreach are underway, with additional patrols in the area to reassure residents.

Community response

The incident has sparked concern within the Sikh community. The Sikh Federation (UK) said the attack highlights a broader climate of hostility toward migrants and minorities. Faith leaders met at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick to discuss safety concerns.

Local MP Gurinder Singh Josan called it a “truly horrific incident” and urged the public to support the police investigation.

Police assurance

Chief Superintendent Kim Madill of Sandwell Police said officers are “working hard to identify those responsible” and acknowledged the anger and anxiety the case has caused locally.

“Incidents like this are incredibly rare, but we are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice,” she said.
