On Independence Day, an alarming situation unfolded in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore when an unemployed man, holding a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degree, allegedly threatened to blow up the Kendriya Vidyalaya located on the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus. The threat was made after the man, Chetan Soni, failed to secure a job at the school.
Chetan Soni, aged 30, was apprehended by police on Friday. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Hitika Vasal confirmed that Soni had sent an email threatening to bomb the central government-run school on August 15. The threat was reportedly made in frustration after Soni’s application for a technician position at the school was unsuccessful.
According to police, Soni’s frustration over not landing the job led him to make the threat. The Kendriya Vidyalaya administration received the email last month, and a subsequent investigation led to Soni’s arrest. The police have since taken him into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.
In a separate incident, a private school in Greater Kailash, Delhi, experienced a bomb scare on Friday morning. Authorities received an email alleging that a bomb had been planted in the school. The school, following its standard operating procedures (SOP), evacuated the premises within 10 minutes of receiving the threat.
Principal Shalini Agarwal stated that the evacuation was swift and that the police and district administration provided excellent support. Upon investigation, the threat was found to be a hoax. The Delhi Police have initiated legal action against the sender of the threat.
The authorities in both cases acted promptly to ensure the safety of students and staff. In Indore, the immediate arrest of Soni prevented any potential harm. In Delhi, the quick evacuation and thorough investigation mitigated the risk posed by the false threat.
