New Delhi: UNICEF has just appointed Grammy winning Indian composer and environmentalist Ricky Kej as the organisation’s supporter for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
As a celebrity UNICEF supported, Kej will use his music to create public awareness for causes such as child rights and support the UNICF’s various programmes across the twin Telugu states as well as Karnataka.
Expressing his happiness at being appointed as a UNICEF supporter, Kej told the Times of India that he was honoured and that he would strive to inspire authorities, his fans, his audience and the public to take action for the rights of the children in the three states and in India.
Along with Kej, the UNICEF’s list of celebrity supporters include Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore among others. They have been working with UNICEF in their advocation of various social causes and in raising awareness in the country.
Kej is known for his firmness in the advocacy for environmental consciousness through his music. He even won a Grammy in the year 2015 for his album ‘Winds of Samsara – World music of environmental consciousness’.
He has also composed music for a couple of movies in Kannada and has to his credit many works on radio as well as television jingles. He has also composed music for the 2011 cricket world cup held in Dhaka.
