Delhi Police have arrested a 27-year-old Uttar Pradesh Police constable for allegedly stealing motorcycles in the capital to settle his gambling debts. The accused, identified as Mohseen, was serving with the 44 Battalion PAC stationed on Hapur Road, Meerut.
According to officials, Mohseen was apprehended on August 6 in the Preet Vihar area of East Delhi during a patrol in Rajdhani Enclave. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted him and discovered two master keys — tools commonly used to unlock motorcycles without original keys — in his possession.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania stated that Mohseen, a resident of Baraut in Baghpat district, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence in the locality. Upon further inquiry, it emerged that he had been targeting parked motorcycles, intending to sell them to clear his mounting gambling losses.
Authorities are now investigating the extent of his involvement in similar thefts across the region. Police are also probing whether he had any accomplices or was part of a wider network of vehicle thieves operating in Delhi and neighbouring states.
This arrest highlights growing concerns over law enforcement personnel engaging in criminal activities, especially those driven by financial pressures such as gambling. Mohseen has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.
