An 18-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district allegedly died by suicide following a family dispute over her communication with her fiancé, police said.
The deceased, Laxmi Saroj, was engaged and her marriage had been scheduled for November this year. According to family members, she had been in regular contact with her fiancé over the phone.
Family objection led to distress
Police said Laxmi’s mother objected to her frequent conversations and asked her to stop. Distressed by the restriction, the young woman allegedly hanged herself inside her home.
Her family later found her, leading to panic and grief in the household.
Police intervene, post-mortem ordered
Authorities said they received information that the family was preparing to conduct the last rites quickly. A police team reached the spot, took custody of the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Police officer Satendra Tiwari confirmed that the death occurred by hanging and stated that further legal procedures are being carried out.
Probe underway
Officials said an investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident. Statements from family members are being recorded as part of the inquiry.
The case has once again highlighted concerns around emotional distress among young individuals and the need for supportive communication within families.
