Odisha Researcher Found Dead in IIT Kanpur Hostel

Kanpur: In a tragic incident at IIT Kanpur, the body of Dr. Pallavi Chilka, a 35-year-old researcher, was discovered hanging from the fan in her hostel room. The suspicious condition of her demise raised concerns, as the cleaning staff found her after repeated attempts to get a response from her locked room. Dr. Pallavi, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, joined IIT Kanpur in August 2023.

The police were alerted by IIT authorities, and upon reaching the scene, they broke open the door to find Dr. Pallavi’s lifeless body. The room was allegedly locked from the inside. The police have initiated a thorough investigation, collecting evidence with the assistance of a forensic team. The cause of death is yet to be determined, and no suicide note has been found.

The authorities have informed Dr. Pallavi’s family members, who will be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. The tragic incident has left the academic community at IIT Kanpur in shock, mourning the loss of a promising researcher.
