Dehradun: A recent incident in Uttarakhand has sparked outrage online after a video surfaced showing a man harassing two Digambar Jain monks. Senior officials have confirmed the viral nature of the video, prompting the establishment of a Special Task Force by the police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Identified as a resident of Tehri district, the individual in question has been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, as stated by Uttarakhand’s Director General of Police, Abhinav Kumar.

The video captures the distressing encounter wherein the monks, seated peacefully on a roadside parapet, face unwarranted interrogation from the man standing before them. He persistently questions their practice of moving about in public without clothing, a fundamental aspect of the Digambar Jain faith.

Despite the monks’ attempts to elucidate their beliefs, the man remains skeptical, prompting their departure from the scene without further engagement.

The Digambar Jain community, deeply offended by the video, finds solace in DGP Kumar’s assurance of respect for all religious beliefs in Uttarakhand. He asserts the state’s commitment to upholding religious sentiments and declares zero tolerance for any form of disrespect towards any faith.

In response to this incident, the Uttarakhand Police has mobilized a Special Task Force to conduct a thorough investigation, promising swift and appropriate legal action against the perpetrator.
