Uttarkashi: Rescue efforts for the 41 workers stuck inside the collapsed Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, hit a snag as the platform supporting the drilling machine collapsed on Thursday evening. Girish Singh Rawat from the rescue team stated that drilling cannot resume until the platform is reconstructed, a process expected to take five to six hours.
Despite the setback, approximately 45 meters of drilling have been completed, with about 10 to 12 meters left. Rawat assured that once the drilling concludes, the trapped workers will be rescued and promptly transported to a hospital.
In response to the ongoing rescue operation, a makeshift Chief Minister Camp Office has been established in Matali. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami personally assessed the situation at Silkyara and communicated with the trapped workers using a walkie-talkie.
Uttarkashi District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela, also present at the tunnel site, reported that the rescue operation is nearing its final stages. A pipeline is being laid for the evacuation of workers, and efforts to clear debris, including removing steel pieces, have progressed. Ruhela expressed optimism, stating that positive results are anticipated soon.
