Surat: The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express was allegedly targeted in a stone-pelting incident near Surat on Tuesday evening, with railway authorities detaining one suspect in connection with the incident. The incident occurred between Utran and Kosad stations while the train was travelling towards Ahmedabad.
Stones damage train window
The incident reportedly took place between 6.30 pm and 6.45 pm after the train departed from Surat. Railway officials said stones struck coaches C6 and C10, damaging window glass. No injuries to passengers have been reported.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police were alerted following the incident, with security personnel rushing to the area and beginning an investigation.
Suspect detained after incident
Railway officials said one suspect, identified in reports as Pintu Kumar, was detained from the area and is being questioned. Authorities are investigating whether he acted alone and are examining the circumstances surrounding the stone-pelting.
The incident has renewed concerns over passenger safety on trains travelling at high speeds, as objects thrown at moving coaches can cause significant damage and potentially injure passengers.
Governor was travelling on train
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel was also travelling on the Vande Bharat Express at the time of the incident. Railway officials said she was seated in the A1 executive coach, while the reported damage occurred in C6 and C10, leaving her unharmed.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and have stepped up security measures along the route.
