Nagaur: Two young Dalit men were brutally tortured and beaten up after being accused of stealing money from a vehicle service centre. A video displaying the horrific acts has gone viral on social media. The incident has been reported from Nagaur in Rajasthan and reportedly took place on February 16.
According to a report by India Today, the video shows a man dipping the screwdriver in petrol while another man holds down the anguished Dalit man. After pulling down his pants, they proceed to insert the object into the man’s rectum who can be seen screaming and writhing in pain.
Since the video surfaced three days later, police were prompted to take action and register an FIR on February 19. Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
Police said that the accused have been charged under sections 342 (for wrongful confinement), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 143 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the SC/ST Act.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday termed the torture of the two young Dalits as “horrific and sickening” and asked his party government in the state to take immediate action to bring the perpetrators to book.
“The recent video of two young Dalit men being brutally tortured in Nagaur, Rajasthan is horrific and sickening. I urge the State Government to take immediate action to bring the perpetrators of this shocking crime to justice,” he said on Twitter.
