Mumbai: Following a fatal BMW crash in Mumbai yesterday, attention has focused on the son of a Shiv Sena leader who remains elusive. CCTV footage capturing the main suspect, Mihir Shah, has now become widely circulated.

The footage depicts Shah leaving a pub in a Mercedes with four friends. According to police, Shah later switched to a BMW and was driving it during the incident, with his driver in the passenger seat.

The speeding BMW collided with a scooter in Worli early Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a woman riding pillion, identified as Kaveri Nakhwa, while her husband, Pradip, managed to escape serious injury. Shah, allegedly intoxicated at the time, fled the scene along with the driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, abandoning the car in Kala Nagar, Bandra East.

In response, authorities have arrested Shah’s father, Rajesh Shah, a prominent figure in Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s party, for non-cooperation. The BMW involved was registered in Rajesh Shah’s name.

Currently, Mihir Shah remains at large, with police suspecting his girlfriend may be aiding his evasion. She is currently under questioning.

This incident has prompted severe legal action, with charges filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and destruction of evidence. Provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act have also been invoked.

The tragedy recalls a recent Pune hit-and-run case involving a Porsche and the son of a realtor, where two engineers lost their lives. In that instance, the minor driver was found intoxicated, and his family members were arrested for alleged attempts to destroy evidence.
