Journalist Vijaita Singh of The Hindu received praise for her reporting on the ongoing ethnic strife in Manipur, which has been intensifying for over 18 months. Singh’s work was recognized with the prestigious International Press Institute India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2024, announced on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

In a statement, the IPI noted that numerous entries from print, digital, and broadcast media covered various perspectives of the conflict in Manipur. The Jury selected the five best entries to award cash prizes and citations as a way to honor the media’s efforts in highlighting the multifaceted human tragedy caused by the civil unrest.
