The long-standing Vikram-Vethal conundrum was finally solved by the Chennai city police after a five-month investigation. A police team, which meticulously followed digital footprints, tracked down the real suspect, Palani, who had been missing since June 2024.
The case began when Paneerselvam was convicted by the Mahila Court in Chennai. He appealed the verdict, and the Madras High Court reduced his sentence from five years to three years. After filing an Interlocutory Application before the Supreme Court, the court upheld the High Court’s decision, dismissing Paneerselvam’s petition.
However, as the investigation progressed, the police discovered a major twist. Paneerselvam, though convicted, turned out to be the brother of the actual criminal, Palani. Paneerselvam was not involved in any criminal activity, and the real culprit had been evading capture. Following this revelation, the police redoubled their efforts to locate Palani, who had been on the run since June 2024.
The breakthrough came after months of tracking digital evidence and following the trail left by the suspect. Palani was eventually apprehended, clearing the confusion surrounding the case and correcting the wrong conviction of Paneerselvam.
The police are now focusing on the full investigation into Palani’s criminal activities. This case highlights the importance of modern investigative techniques, including the use of digital footprints, in solving complex crimes and ensuring justice is served.
