In Rajasthan’s Bundi, villagers took matters into their own hands after catching a thief red-handed with stolen electric cables. The thief, identified as Hansraj, was found sleeping in a farm hut after a night of stealing cables from multiple locations. Upon discovering the stolen items in his bag, angry villagers beat him with sticks, tied him to a tree, and hung him upside down.
The police later rescued Hansraj, who was also wanted for theft in a nearby village, and handed him over to the appropriate authorities. Frustrated by frequent thefts and lack of police action despite multiple complaints, the villagers took the opportunity to interrogate the thief themselves before involving the authorities.
Recent weeks have seen significant thefts of electric cables in the area, with stolen lengths ranging from 10 to 150 feet.
