Sub-Inspector Karthik Selvam of Brahmapuram Police Station has been transferred to the Vellore District Armed Reserve after a video of his night patrol near a private college in Katpadi went viral on July 3, 2025. The patrol reportedly took place on the night of June 25.
According to an official statement, the officer was seen on duty near a fast food outlet owned by a man named Bala. In the footage, Selvam is seen questioning two individuals and using his lathi to strike the ground during the interaction.
Superintendent of Police N. Mathivannan told The New Indian Express that the patrol was part of regular procedure and that officers often question people who appear suspicious during nighttime rounds. However, he confirmed that a Deputy Superintendent of Police has been tasked with conducting a detailed enquiry to determine whether any misconduct occurred.
The department clarified that the transfer is a procedural move pending the results of the investigation.
