A viral video showing a Vande Bharat Express being forced to halt after wooden logs were placed on railway tracks has triggered widespread outrage, with social media users calling the act a grave threat to public safety and demanding strict action against those involved.
The clip, which has circulated widely on X and other platforms, shows a group of young men deliberately placing large wooden logs across the tracks on an open stretch. Moments later, the high-speed train is seen slowing down and coming to a halt, while the men celebrate on camera, laughing and saying, “rukwa diye Vande Bharat”.
Police constable confronts youths
In the video, a police constable from inside the train approaches the group, apparently suspecting that they were trying to board the train. The youths, however, are heard telling him on camera that they were not attempting to enter the train and were “only recording a video” for social media.
The footage also includes live commentary by the group, documenting the train’s stoppage as if it were a stunt, further fuelling anger among viewers.
Netizens demand arrests, strict punishment
After the video went viral, users tagged the Ministry of Railways, the Railway Protection Force, and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging immediate action.
Several users termed the act “criminal endangerment” and even “terrorism”, calling for arrests and exemplary punishment. Some demanded that stringent laws be applied to deter similar stunts, while others expressed concern that such behaviour could be repeated if left unchecked.
Legal provisions and safety concerns
Under Section 150 of the Railways Act, 1989, malicious interference with train operations is a serious offence and can attract life imprisonment or rigorous imprisonment of up to 10 years.
Railway officials have repeatedly warned that placing objects on tracks can lead to catastrophic accidents, risking the lives of hundreds of passengers and railway staff.
Reckless content creation under scrutiny
The incident has once again brought focus on the growing trend of reckless social media stunts involving critical public infrastructure. Experts and citizens alike have stressed that the pursuit of online attention should not come at the cost of public safety.
Authorities have not yet confirmed arrests in the case, but the video has intensified calls for zero tolerance towards such acts that endanger lives and disrupt essential transport services.
