Walmart has sparked outrage among the Hindu community, particularly in the US, for selling items such as slippers, swimsuits, and undergarments featuring ganesha’s image. Pictures of these products have gone viral, leading to accusations of cultural insensitivity and disrespecting religious sentiments. Social media users have called for the immediate removal of these items from Walmart’s website.

The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) criticized the use of sacred imagery on inappropriate items, stating, “Hindu deities like Ganesha hold profound spiritual significance for over a billion followers worldwide. Items like slippers and bathing suits featuring sacred imagery demean the reverence with which these symbols are held.” HAF has formally urged Walmart to discontinue the products.

Although Walmart removed some items, including slippers and socks, other products, like swimsuits, remain available. Social media users have emphasized the need for cultural sensitivity, with many urging global brands to avoid such missteps.
