Web of spies unravels: UP trader and YouTuber caught aiding Pakistan
A businessman from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh has been taken into custody for allegedly working as a spy for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. The state’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested the suspect, Shahzad, in Moradabad after receiving intelligence linking him to cross-border trafficking and secretive information leaks.
According to the STF, Shahzad had made several trips to Pakistan over the years. His primary cover was the illegal transportation of goods such as cosmetics, garments, spices, and other merchandise across the border. However, investigators say this trade route doubled as a channel for his covert espionage missions.
Shahzad reportedly passed along critical data related to national defense and provided Pakistani agents in India with money and Indian SIM cards. The probe further indicated he facilitated the travel of several individuals from Rampur and nearby regions to Pakistan to serve ISI interests. Their travel documents were allegedly arranged by ISI personnel.
In another startling development, Jyoti Malhotra, a content creator from Haryana with over 300,000 YouTube followers, was arrested on similar charges. She allegedly maintained contact with a Pakistani embassy official in Delhi, who was expelled by the Indian government on May 13 for espionage activities.
Malhotra had also shared vlogs from her Pakistan visit with titles like ‘Indian Girl in Pakistan’ and ‘Exploring Lahore’. Authorities believe these were used to mask her intelligence sharing.
These back-to-back arrests come amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions following a terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.
