A 32-year-old cook succumbed to severe burn injuries on Thursday after allegedly falling into a large wok filled with boiling oil while preparing food at a wedding function in the Parwalia area.
Accident during wedding preparations
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Sajjad Hussain, a resident of Gondipura New Jail Road in Gandhi Nagar. He worked as a halwai and had been engaged to prepare food at a wedding function organised at a garden in Mubarakpur under the Parwalia police limits.
Parwalia SHO Rohit Nagar said the incident occurred on February 4 at around 9.30 am. Sajjad was reportedly frying puris in a large kadhai filled with hot oil when he suddenly felt dizzy. He lost his balance and fell into the wok containing boiling oil.
Co-workers immediately pulled him out and rushed him to the Hamidia Hospital for treatment.
Succumbs after prolonged treatment
Doctors admitted him with extensive burn injuries. Despite undergoing treatment for nearly 15 days, Sajjad Hussain succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.
Police from the Parwalia Police Station have registered a case and initiated an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the incident. Preliminary findings suggest he may have experienced sudden dizziness before losing balance.
The tragic death has cast a shadow over the local community and the wedding organisers, with colleagues recalling him as a hardworking professional who regularly catered large gatherings.
Authorities have advised event organisers and catering teams to ensure adequate safety arrangements, including stable platforms and medical preparedness, particularly when working with large quantities of hot oil and heavy cooking equipment.
