New Delhi: Manish Tewari, a senior Congress leader, has shared his thoughts on the recent discussion about Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy suggesting that young people work 70 hours a week to boost India’s productivity. Tewari, on X (formerly Twitter), said that working 70 hours a week with one day off and 15 days of vacation should be considered normal.
He mentioned that many public representatives, including elected MPs, work long hours every day to balance their careers with public service. Tewari doesn’t see any issue with Murthy’s suggestion and questioned the fuss around it.
Tewari also shared that he personally works even on Sundays, considering it a full working day in his constituency. He believes that adopting a work ethic of 70 hours a week with one day off should be considered if India wants to increase productivity, but only if there’s enough work to justify it.
In a simpler conversation on a podcast, Narayana Murthy advised young people to work more hours to compete globally, emphasizing the need to improve India’s work productivity. He urged youngsters to show commitment to the country by embracing a 70-hour work week to keep up with countries like China and Japan.
