Kolkata: The blood-smeared body of a woman civic volunteer was recovered at her house near the airport here while her husband was found tied to a chair with plastic ropes, police said on Saturday, May 19.

Shampa Das, 32, was, apparently, hit by some heavy objects and her face was covered with a pillow to suffocate her to death, according to local residents.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday night when her body was recovered from her house at Kaikhali and was taken to a local private nursing home where doctors declared her dead.

Shampa was working as a civic volunteer under New Town Police Station.

Police also said her husband Supratim Das was found tied to a chair with plastic rope and also had some injuries on his body, police said.

“The investigation is going on and we are looking at all possible angles. Autopsy report is awaited,” a police officer said.

The neighbours revealed that the couple had frequent tiffs between themselves.

Shampa’s husband, who was physically unfit, revealed that some miscreants tried to loot their house and are responsible for everything, said police, adding that he was recovering at the hospital and will be interrogated further.
