In a tragic incident in Thiruvananthapuram, 28-year-old Krishna Thankappan, from Malayinkeezhu, passed away at the Government Medical College Hospital on Sunday. Krishna had been unconscious for the past five days following an alleged medical error at Neyyattinkara General Hospital.

Family sources claim that Dr. Vinu, a physician at the Neyyattinkara hospital, administered a wrong injection when Krishna sought treatment for kidney stones last week. The family alleges that this mistake led to Krishna falling unconscious and deteriorating health, necessitating her transfer to the Government Medical College Hospital.

Following a complaint from her husband, Sharath, the Neyyattinkara police filed a case against Dr. Vinu under Section 125 of Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS), which addresses acts endangering life or personal safety. The FIR accuses Dr. Vinu of negligence for not conducting an allergy test before administering the injection.

However, the Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) disputes these claims. They assert that the injection was standard for abdominal issues and suggest that anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction, may have been responsible for Krishna’s condition, rather than treatment negligence.

Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has expressed condolences over Krishna’s death and called for a thorough investigation into the allegations of medical negligence at the state-run hospital.
