A woman employee was injured in the early hours of Sunday after unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled a chemical substance at a private company bus near Palakuri, close to Krishnagiri, triggering concern over employee safety during late-night travel.
Attack on staff bus
The bus, operated by TATA Electronics Private Limited, was transporting employees from the company’s unit in Kelamangalam to their residences in and around Krishnagiri. According to police, the incident occurred when the bus was passing through the Palakuri area.
Miscreants reportedly threw a chemical substance at the bus, which entered through a window and injured Madasu Dharani, an employee seated on the right side of the vehicle. The sudden attack caused panic among passengers, though no other injuries were reported.
Victim treated, discharged
Dharani was immediately rushed to the Hosur Government Hospital, where she received medical treatment. Doctors said her condition was stable, and she was later discharged. She subsequently returned to her hostel, police sources confirmed.
Officials did not disclose the exact nature of the chemical substance, stating that further analysis would be carried out as part of the investigation.
Police launch probe
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack. CCTV footage from the area and along the bus route is being examined, and local inquiries are under way to determine whether the incident was targeted or random.
Senior officers said all angles, including possible labour-related issues or mischief by anti-social elements, are being looked into. Security along late-night employee transport routes is also expected to be reviewed.
Safety concerns raised
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of employees, particularly women, travelling during early morning and late-night hours in industrial corridors around Krishnagiri and Hosur, which host several large manufacturing units.
Company officials said they are cooperating fully with the police investigation and are reviewing additional safety measures for employee transportation.
Police have urged the public to share any information related to the incident and assured strict action against those involved once identified.
