A 25-year-old woman from Odisha tragically died after falling from an apartment in Hyderabad under mysterious circumstances, with police investigating the case as a possible suicide. The woman had been in the city for surrogacy and was staying in the apartment of a 54-year-old businessman, where she had reportedly been subjected to sexual harassment. The woman’s husband has accused the businessman of harassing her, which allegedly led to her taking her own life on the night of November 25-26, 2024.
According to the police, the woman had been staying in a room in the businessman’s flat for the past month, while her husband was in a separate room. The businessman lived in the flat with his wife and family members, and the surrogacy procedure was set to begin next month. The authorities found a sari tied to an iron grill on the balcony, extending from the ninth floor to the seventh floor. Police suspect that the woman may have attempted to climb down to escape but are also exploring the possibility that she fell accidentally or died by suicide.
A case of abetment to suicide has been filed against the businessman, and the investigation is ongoing.
