A woman has raised a safety concern after alleging that a food delivery partner sent her unsolicited messages following a late-night delivery, prompting discussion online about customer security and professional conduct in app-based services.

In a post shared on Reddit, the woman said the delivery partner arrived at around 10.30 pm. After handing over the order, she noticed that the delivery was not immediately marked as completed on the app. Shortly afterwards, she received brief personal messages from the delivery partner through the platform.

She said she shut her gate immediately after collecting the parcel and found the delay in marking the order as delivered unsettling. According to her account, the delivery partner waited for nearly 20 minutes before finally updating the order status.

The woman described the experience as uncomfortable, particularly because delivery partners have access to customers’ addresses and contact details, which she said raises concerns about personal safety, especially for women living alone or receiving late-night deliveries.

She added that she has lodged a complaint with Zomato and is awaiting a response from the company.

Online reactions and calls for action

The post gained traction on social media after screenshots of the chat were shared. Many users advised the woman to escalate the issue through official customer support channels and to seek a clear response from the platform.

Some commenters suggested raising the matter publicly on social media to ensure accountability, while others debated whether the intent behind the message could have been misinterpreted. However, a large number of users stressed that personal messages from service staff are inappropriate, regardless of intent.

Several users also highlighted the broader issue of safety in last-mile delivery services and called on companies to enforce strict professional boundaries, especially during late-night deliveries.

The company has not yet publicly responded to the specific allegation.
