Thrissur: In a dramatic sequence of events on Saturday afternoon, a young woman was kidnapped in broad daylight from Vallakkunnu, triggering a rapid police pursuit that ended nearly 50 km away near Aluva.

Around 2:30 p.m., the woman, a resident of Muriyad, was walking along the roadside when a man forcibly pulled her into a car and sped away. Shocked onlookers who witnessed the incident immediately contacted the police, setting off a frantic manhunt.

Authorities quickly reviewed CCTV footage and identified the getaway vehicle as an electric car. The footage showed the car heading toward Ernakulam, prompting a region-wide alert. A team of officers launched a high-speed chase, eventually intercepting the vehicle near Chengamanad, on the outskirts of Aluva.

The abductor, identified as Chacko J Alappatt (31), hailing from Alappatt House on St Sebastian Road, Ollur, was arrested at the scene. The woman was rescued unharmed.

The operation was led by Irinjalakuda DySP Suresh K G and carried out under the direction of Thrissur Rural District Police Chief B Krishnakumar IPS. Authorities praised the quick thinking of local residents and the seamless coordination of police teams across districts.

The motive behind the abduction is currently under investigation, and further details are expected following questioning of the accused.
