Garhwa: A 19-year-old woman suffered severe injuries after being struck by a train while allegedly making a social media reel near a railway track in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district on Tuesday.
Woman hit while making video
The victim, identified as Purnima Kumari, was reportedly making reels with friends near the railway line at Raisa in the Nagar-Untari railway section when she was hit by the Ranchi-Chopan Express.
According to preliminary information, Purnima apparently misjudged the speed and distance of the approaching train.
The impact left both her hands severed and caused serious injuries to other parts of her body.
Friends rush her to hospital
Purnima’s friends immediately took her to Garhwa Sadar Hospital, where doctors provided emergency treatment.
Considering the seriousness of her injuries, she was later referred to a higher medical centre for further treatment. Her family members also reached the hospital after being informed about the accident.
Purnima, the daughter of Dheeraj Singh, is a resident of Ashok Vihar locality under Garhwa police station limits.
Reel trend raises safety concerns
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of attempting to create social media content in hazardous locations.
Railway tracks, waterfalls, rivers, high-rise structures and other unsafe places have increasingly become settings for videos and reels, sometimes resulting in serious injuries or deaths.
The Garhwa accident serves as a grim reminder that likes, views and followers are never worth risking a life. Staying away from railway tracks and other restricted or dangerous areas remains essential, particularly when attempting to record videos.
