Thiruvananthapuram: Of the two who became the first women of menstruating age to enter the Sabarimala temple, one ended up in a hospital recently after she was allegedly attacked by a family member. She is reportedly stable and has been referred for tests.

Kanaka Durga (39), who spent the last 13 days in hiding fearing threats to her life, returned home this morning only to be hit on the head by her mother-in-law.

Durga and Bindu Ammini (40) were hiding out at an undisclosed location on the outskirts of Kochi after entering the Sabarimala temple on January 2 with police protection, amidst protests and chaos following the landmark Supreme Court judgement permitting entry to women of menstruating age.

After she returned from her visit to the temple, Durga had told NDTV that it was worth it, even though her life was in danger. She also said that her family was strongly opposed to her decision to enter the temple.
