In a startling turn of events, Pune police disclosed that a 22-year-old tech employee falsely accused a man of rape out of anger. The woman had earlier alleged that a courier delivery person had assaulted her at her residence on Wednesday. However, she later confessed that the accused was actually a friend she had known for some time.

According to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the woman admitted during questioning that although she wasn’t mentally prepared for physical intimacy that day, her friend went ahead without her clear consent. In a fit of rage, she approached the authorities and filed a rape complaint.

Initially, the woman had described the assailant as a stranger posing as a delivery agent who forced entry into her Kondhwa apartment and sexually assaulted her. She further claimed the man clicked a photo with her phone and sent a threatening message, warning he’d share the images online if she reported the matter.

But when the police tracked and detained the alleged suspect — a well-educated professional — the truth began to unravel. It was found that the selfie in question had been clicked by the woman herself. She had cropped the image to conceal his identity and had composed the threatening note on her own.

Investigators also found that the man was a frequent visitor to her home, often delivering parcels when her family was away. Their friendship had blossomed after a meeting at a social gathering, and both families were familiar with each other.
