Won’t forgive Pragya for insulting ‘Bapu’: Modi on Godse remark

New Delhi: The BJP’s candidate from the Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur has been making headlines ever since she got into the political arena, the most recent one being her terming Nathuram Godse a ‘patriot’.

During an interview with the channel News24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, although having previously vouched for her, hit out at Thakur for insulting the Mahatma. “I will never be able to forgive Sadhvi Pragya for insulting Bapu,” he said.

While the conversation began when Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan called Godse, the man who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, independent India’s first Hindu terrorist, it has taken on a whole new life with various politicians arguing on either side of the debate.

On Thursday, the Sadhvi added to the already controversial issue saying, Nathuram Godse “is and will remain a patriot”. Soon after this, the BJP distanced itself from her comments and asked her to apologise for her remark, which she promptly did.
