New Delhi: India’s 80th Independence Day has drawn warm greetings from leaders abroad, with several highlighting the country’s democratic journey, expanding international partnerships and growing role in regional cooperation.
Singapore praises stronger ties
Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam highlighted the countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and close people-to-people connections.
He noted that cooperation is expanding across skills development, digitalisation, sustainability and advanced manufacturing. Singapore also reaffirmed its interest in working with India on trade, the digital economy, energy security and the energy transition.
Maldives celebrates India’s journey
Former Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih congratulated President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India.
He described India’s journey since 1947 as an inspiration for developing countries such as the Maldives in their pursuit of democracy, while expressing hope that bilateral friendship would continue to strengthen.
Mohamed Nazim, President of the Maldives National Party, also described India as a close friend and trusted partner.
A growing global partnership
The messages come as India marks eight decades of Independence and seeks a larger role in global affairs. The celebrations this year also commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram and highlight the contribution of young Indians towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The greetings from partner countries underline the breadth of India’s international relationships and its growing importance in discussions on trade, technology, sustainability, energy and regional stability.
As the Tricolour rises across the country, the occasion carries both a celebration of India’s past and a reminder of its aspirations for the future.
