Thrissur (Kerala): A disturbing complaint emerged from a meat vendor near Union Stop in Vendoor when a resident of Varakara discovered worms in the meat purchased early Sunday morning. The incident quickly gained attention after the buyer filed an official grievance.

Upon hearing about the complaint, the meat stall owner abruptly closed the shop and left the premises before health and food safety inspectors could arrive. By the time officials reached the location, the shop was already locked and deserted.

Food safety officers visited the complainant’s residence to collect a meat sample, which was sent for laboratory testing to identify contamination. Panchayat officials revealed that the stall had been operating without a valid license and admitted this was not the first time the vendor faced such allegations.

Earlier complaints had led to temporary closure, but the stall reopened shortly after. Given the recurring problems, Panchayat President K. Rajeshwari announced a new regulation effective June 15, requiring all fish and meat sellers in Alagappanagar to have proper licenses.

Health authorities also confirmed a follow-up inspection is scheduled for Monday to decide the next steps in handling the matter.

In a related incident, Kanthari Thattukada at Pudukkad Centre was closed two days ago after worms were discovered in the food served there, raising wider concerns about food safety in the area.
