New Delhi: He had won a bronze for Indian in 2012 London Olympics, but now Star Indian Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt has won a million hearts with his act of accepting Re 1 as dowry ahead of his marriage from the family of his bride.
Popularly called Yogi, Dutt will tie the knot with Sheetal, daughter of Haryana’s Congress leader Jaibhagwan Sharma on January 16.
Dutt said that he had taken this step, keeping aside customs and traditions because he had seen how his family struggled to put together dowry amount for girls of is own family.
“As a result, I decided on two things while growing up — I will excel in wrestling and I will not accept dowry. My first dream has been realised and now it is time to keep my second promise,” he told TOI.
Yogeshwar Dutt got engaged to Sheetal Sharma on Saturday in Rohtak and as per his mother, the family accepted a Re 1 token from the bride’s family.
