Kozhikode: A day after activist-writer Kamal C Chavara set his book ablaze, the writer has claimed that he was attacked by a man who is affiliated to the Sangh Parivar at Kunnamangalam here on Sunday.The incident reportedly took place outside a bar when an unidentified person approached the writer and asked if he was the same who had burnt down his book on Saturday.
When the writer affirmed, the person hurled abuses, slapped and pushed him. Chavara has been admitted to Government General Hospital in Kozhikode.
While the police said that it was only a drunken brawl, Chavara said that the attacker stated that he was a Hanuman devotee and expressed anger over burning of the copy of a novel ‘Smashanangalude Note Pustakam’.
The author faced arrest on December 17 on charges of sedition. It is said that he insulted the national anthem in his facebook post. He claimed to have received several threats thereafter and on Saturday Chavara burnt down copies of ‘Smashanangalude Note Pustakam’ opposing police highhandedness and threats from miscreants.
