In a tragic incident, a 26-year-old man and a 21-year-old married woman from Nandyal district died by suicide late Saturday night by hanging themselves from a tree near Akkapalle village in Prakasam district.
Komarolu Sub-Inspector J Nagaraju identified the deceased as Burugula Ramudu, also known as Kambagiri Ramudu, and Nallabothula Bharathi, wife of Siva Prasad. Both hailed from Madhavaram village in Pyapili mandal and were neighbours as well as distant relatives, regarded as cousins in their community.
Police said Bharathi had recently returned to her parents’ home after marital issues. A romantic relationship is said to have developed between her and Ramudu, which was reportedly met with strong disapproval from both families due to their kinship ties.
Under emotional and social pressure, the couple left the village on July 4. On Sunday morning, their families received a WhatsApp message from the two, sharing the location of their intended suicide. Police rushed to the spot and found their bodies hanging from a tree in a field near the forest. Their motorcycle was parked nearby.
The bodies were sent for autopsy and later handed over to their families. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
