A young couple had an extraordinary escape after their car plunged into a 15-foot deep well near Pattimattom, Kochi, late Friday night. The incident unfolded around 9 PM when the couple, unaware of a road depression, lost control of their vehicle. The car hit a nearby shop before tumbling into the well.
Fortunately, the well contained minimal water, enabling the couple to exit through the rear doors and stand safely inside until help arrived. A police officer reported that they appeared to be using Google Maps, likely contributing to their speed at the time of the accident.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, dropping a ladder into the well for the couple to climb out. Remarkably, neither sustained major injuries, only minor scrapes. If the well had been full of water, the outcome could have been significantly different. The couple’s ordeal serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of road conditions and the importance of driving cautiously, especially when navigating unfamiliar areas.
This incident highlights not only the potential hazards of driving but also the critical role of emergency services in responding to such situations. The quick actions of those involved prevented what could have been a far more tragic scenario.
