A 25-year-old man died after being found severely burnt at a secluded spot in Modinagar on Saturday night, with police suspecting suicide while the family has alleged that he was murdered.

Incident and police version

The deceased, identified as Madhur Yadav, was a resident of Mangal Vihar Colony in Modinagar. Police said the incident occurred around 8.30 pm when Madhur allegedly left home and went to an isolated area about two kilometres away.

According to Amit Saxena, passersby noticed him in a critical condition and rushed him to a nearby hospital. He was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police said nearly 80 per cent of his body had sustained burns.

Background and investigation findings

Madhur had recently completed training for a stenographer’s post and was awaiting a joining letter from the Rajasthan High Court. His father is a section officer in the irrigation department.

Investigators said preliminary examination of his mobile phone showed that he had spent nearly 15 days searching online for information related to self-harm and had viewed multiple videos on the subject. Police are also examining his chats and call records as part of the probe.

A senior officer said Madhur was in a relationship and had been under emotional stress, adding that he had shown self-harm tendencies earlier.

Family alleges murder

The family has strongly disputed the suicide theory. Madhur’s father claimed that his son had spoken to him shortly before the incident and later named a youth while critically injured, alleging he had been attacked. A complaint has been filed against the said individual.

Police said all allegations are being verified and the case is under investigation from all angles.
