A 25-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend during a heated argument over being blocked on his mobile phone in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, police said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at a rented house where the victim, Kamta Prasad Suryavanshi, lived. Kamta worked at a local hotel and had been in a relationship with the accused, Roshni Suryavanshi (22), whom he met on social media about six months ago.
Dispute escalated after communication stopped
According to police, tensions had been building over the past two to three days after Kamta stopped responding to Roshni’s calls and messages and blocked her number. Suspecting that he was seeing another woman, Roshni allegedly went to his residence carrying a knife.
Police said that when Kamta opened the door, Roshni demanded his mobile phone. When he refused, a heated argument broke out, which soon escalated into violence.
During the altercation, Roshni allegedly stabbed Kamta in the chest. His roommate, alerted by the noise, rushed to the room and found Kamta lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
Victim died on way to hospital
Kamta was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Confirming the arrest, police officer Summat Sahu said a case of murder has been registered. “The accused came to the victim’s room with a knife. During the struggle, she stabbed him in the chest, leading to his death,” he said.
Investigation underway
Police sources said the accused initially claimed she had brought the knife only to scare Kamta. Investigators are now examining her intent, the nature of their relationship and the sequence of events leading to the killing.
Police also confirmed that Kamta was the nephew of Rajesh Suryavanshi, adding that this fact has no bearing on the investigation.
Further probe is underway.
