In a heartbreaking incident, a 21-year-old youth lost his life in a road accident late Saturday night, just four days before his wedding. The tragedy has plunged his family and village into mourning.

The deceased, Amrit Kumar alias Prince, was a resident of Ward No. 9 under Raghunathpur panchayat in the Sahebpurkamal police station limits. According to police, the accident occurred on NH-333B as he was heading towards Hira Tol Zero Mile.

Speeding SUV rams motorcycle

Sahebpurkamal SHO Sintu Kumar said a speeding SUV travelling in the same direction rammed into the rear of Amrit’s motorcycle. The impact flung him onto the road, while his bike got trapped beneath the SUV.

“The driver attempted to free the motorcycle and flee from the scene. However, alert locals chased and caught him before handing him over to the police. The SUV has been seized,” the SHO stated.

Amrit sustained severe injuries and died on the spot, police said. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Wedding preparations turn into mourning

Amrit’s father, Pankaj Yadav, said his son’s wedding was scheduled for February 20. The ‘tilak’ ceremony had already been performed, and invitation cards were distributed.

“Even on Saturday night, he had stepped out to distribute wedding cards. The whole family was preparing for the celebration. Now everything has turned into grief. I am shattered,” he said.

Amrit was the elder of two brothers. His marriage had been arranged with a girl from Maharra village in neighbouring Munger district. Her family, too, is said to be devastated by the sudden tragedy.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over speeding and reckless driving on highways, especially during night hours.
