Japanese actor and singer Miho Nakayama, 54, was found dead at her Tokyo residence, with authorities investigating the cause of her death. The actress, who rose to fame in the 1980s and 90s, was discovered on Friday in her bathtub after missing a scheduled work engagement. A concerned acquaintance contacted emergency services, and paramedics confirmed her death at the scene.

Nakayama had been scheduled to perform at a Christmas concert in Osaka but had canceled due to health issues. Her team expressed their sorrow on her official website, confirming her sudden passing and requesting privacy as they await further details on the investigation.

Nakayama was a prominent figure in Japan’s entertainment scene, particularly known for her role in the 1995 film Love Letter, as well as her successful music career with 22 studio albums and multiple chart-topping singles. She had a devoted following and earned accolades such as Best Actress awards at the Blue Ribbon and Hochi Film Awards.

Nakayama is survived by her son, whom she shared with her former husband, musician Hitonari Tsuji.
