Kalaburagi Takes Action Against Dengue with Comprehensive Measures
In response to the dengue outbreak, Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum has issued a directive to tackle the spread of the disease. At a District Disaster Management Authority meeting on Friday, Taranum instructed officials to complete a thorough larval survey and eliminate mosquito breeding sites in all schools, Anganwadis, and hostels across the district within the next three days.
The DC stressed the need for urgent action, especially in light of recent floods that could exacerbate disease transmission. She also mandated that monthly medical check-ups be conducted for hostel inmates. Taranum highlighted the importance of raising public awareness in areas that saw high dengue cases in July and August. She called for Community Health Centre (CHC) and Primary Health Centre (PHC) doctors to visit schools, Anganwadis, hostels, and villages to educate the public and ensure effective mosquito control measures.
In addition to destroying breeding sites, she emphasized preventing water stagnation and cleaning water tanks in schools and hostels. Taranum also urged municipal zonal commissioners to focus on cleanliness in Kalaburagi city, addressing “black spots” and educating public market traders on proper waste disposal. Violators of cleanliness rules should be fined according to SBM regulations.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed District Health Officers (DHOs), Reproductive and Child Health Officers (RCHOs), and District Level Officers (DLOs) to organize dengue control awareness programs in every zone. She advised municipal environmental engineers to collaborate with other departments to support these initiatives. The meeting was attended by Zilla Panchayat CEO Bhanwar Singh Meena and other senior officials.
